Bathroom Floor in Abertawe | Handyman Near Me

Rotten chipboard floor replaced with traditional wood floorboards, stained in Ebony.
Replacement bathroom floor. Done!

I'm old enough to remember when ALL houses had traditional wood flooring, rather than the cheaper (both in terms of purchase price, and fitting cost) chipboard flooring that's being fitted in newer houses.

The MDF/chipboard flooring is OK, I'm not a fan if I'm honest, but I can see why it's being used; it does a job, but it hasn't been designed to last, or even be that hard wearing.

My particular issue with it, comes from seeing too many bathroom floors that have started to go rotten once the MDF has gotten wet - it has a consistency of rather rough Weetabix. (And about as much structural integrity).

I was recently asked to look at replacing the flooring of one such bathroom. Fortunately, the owner recognised the problem and had taken steps to minimise the damage - wedging timber underneath the bath to give it some support, rather than relying on the rotten chipboard floor. Had they not done this, there's a high probability that they'd one day find themselves staring out their kitchen window underneath the bathroom, whilst still soaking away in 'the tub'.

The majority of the floor was still intact, but the decision was made to replace the whole lot; not only would it look better, but it would be a much better job, for not a lot more money ... certainly outlast the rest of the flooring upstairs.

The drawback to a job like this is that everything needs to come out - bath, toilet, sink pedestal, which requires quite a lot of work to remove and refit, but the finished result is worth it.

Bathroom in Swansea that needed a new floor. We replaced the floor and fitted a new toilet at the same time.

Removing the toilet was difficult - all the fixings and fittings were just plain steel, which meant they had rusted beyond use, fortunately, the toilet was due for replacement anyway, so removing it required nothing more than a hammer! (Yes, really).

Abertawe Handyman

If you've read through my website, you'll see that I work in both Warwickshire, and South Wales. That's because I've recently moved to Ynysforgan, near Abertawe, and I'm still being asked to service clients back in Warwickshire.

With that said, I'm slowly starting to build up a strong list of clients in South Wales also, and if you'd like to find out why my Warwickshire customers are happy to wait that little longer for me to take care of them, then feel free to contact me to find out what sets me apart from the rest.
