Before we get too far, I'll just say that although the pics are pretty good, they just don't do it justice. The wall looks amazing in real life.
Slate Wall Covering
One of my customers approached me about the possibilities of covering one of their walls with a natural slate. They didn't want regular black slate, but something with a little colour. In natural light, the slates we used are vibrant and super colourful.
I have to be honest, this isn't something that I'd done before, so was very wary, but I really wanted to be involved with it, because I thought it would look stunning once done. (I was right).
The whole process was quite time consuming, partly because of taking my time to make sure it was perfect, and partly because it's just a long process - the wall needs prepping, then boarding (because of the weight), sealing & priming, and then covered with the slate.
Natural Slate Tiles
Technically, these are slate tiles, around ten millimetres thick, but they're made up from a wide range of different slates, in different sizes, which are then glued together and formed in to a set shape.
I needed to be very careful when handling them, because they had a tendency to break, or for the glue to come apart. Of course, once they're stuck to the wall, they can't go anywhere, so it really is just while I was fitting them.
The whole process took around three days in total, and the results were fantastic.
